After my look earlier on this month at wed-sites I thought this week I would review a few of the vendors out there to help you make up your own mind of what service to use. I started looking at the amount of Web 2.0 sites that offer dynamic site creation, web planning tools and lists of vendors. The first I will look at is OneWed which offers an online toolbox for wedding preparation. My first impressions were favourable and using Facebook connect to login is always a saving grace to online form filling.
Once inside you are greeted with a very clean (if not a little too pale) and organised layout with an option to share some info on your wall with one and alI (I don’t really see the point in this but just my opinion) Its very facebookesque in its purpose and possibly a little bit of a distraction for a busy wedding planning schedule. I think this section may get either a little abused or ignored.
Checklist: Very impressive list of things to do that is both comprehensive and logically laid out. For the absent minded of us (i.e most grooms) an awesome function to have. Its and pretty intuitive to use and slick in its functionality. Without going too tech on you the UI is sleek but does lack a bit of colour and the writing is hard to read. To its credit it has links to where you can get the job done on each individual task, a clever little add on and will save you an awful lot of time searching for exactly what you want, it also means you don’t need to keep flicking in and out of the site to find the next on the list.
Following on from what I blogged about wed-sites in my last blog, OneWed has its own website creation tool. To be honest as I said before, you get what you pay for! This is a free site and the templates are a little too generic and impersonal for most peoples tastes but they are functional and free, for which I give OneWed huge credit. The management of the wedsite is a little clunky but but does afford you the option to style your invitation around the website (that’s a little like changing your name to your personalised license plate!). I am not going to dwell on the wedsite application because I don’t wish to detract from the great services that OneWed provides, and all said at least it provides the option. Another great part of this site is the photo upload. I feel this is a necessary addition to any wedsite as picture sharing in a personalised environment is a must.
To allow anybody from the wedding party to upload their own shots is an awesome addition and OneWed have made this slick and easy. A simple click and upload interface just like any other of the photo moment sharing websites.
Wedding Guest List: It basically is a Facebook for your wedding for people to view who is going and interact with those that you have yet to meet. As the application uses your Facebook profile it will auto load your profile pic but you can edit your bio which is a great business tool! My view is that the offerings of the One Wed site are very good although unnecessary in areas. The application and its styling although a little washed out is user friendly and not over technical. The addition of search functions for everything wedding is a clever way of keeping you within the site and using your time to best effect. Overall, OneWed is an awesome tool for those on a budget. Don’t let the wedsite app put you off because OneWed have got it right on 90% of the stuff. If they create a better wedsite management function I think they would be on to a real winner.
