Jeweled hair accessories and bejeweled hair have become a big trend–and not just for destination brides on their wedding day. Some of the hottest female actresses were just seen walking the red carpet at the Emmy’s wearing crystals and rhinestone, handcrafted pieces. Gone are the basic tiaras. Pearls, gemstones, Swarovski crystals and even bling belt buckles have adorned bride’s tresses. So when you’re looking for that something old or something blue item, think outside the jewelry box.
Imagine walking down the aisle on a sandy beach wearing a gift that your fiancé has given you. When selecting a hair accessory, choose wisely because it’s a great item to wear every year on your anniversary or a great piece to pass on to your daughter on her wedding day. This is a wedding trend that will make every up-do a special one.

In a town that’s so Twitter and Facebook obsessed, is there room in your life to slow down, savor a time when men were men, and women considered lipstick and a martini the perfect accessory? When 5 o’clock rolled around, people weren’t hunched over their handsets tapping away looking for a newer, better place to be. They looked into each others eyes in a dimly lit lounge, possibly through a netted veil and flirted seductively over libations.
Does all this sound good to you? Are you missing a lost world were you can channel a chanteuse, a torch singer, or one tough dame that’s giving all the guys in her office the what-for? Is there one item in your closet that could transport you to this magical world in a nanosecond? I daresay there is, and it’s right here in SF: Kitty Andrews Millinery. Is there room in your life for a hat? It’s up to you, but I’ve seen Ms. Kitty Andrews herself (aka Melissa Bolin) steal the spotlight and light up a room on many occasion just by the very creative topper on her head. It takes guts to wear a hat of this magnificence, as well as social courage, but wear it well and you will be rewarded in spades. Remember in fashion, you never get points by being safe on the red carpet, and those who don’t risk are not noticed as much as those that do. With hats as beautifully made as these, handcrafted with silk, feathers and beading, you will never look anything but tasteful, stunning and inventive, in the grand tradition of Vivienne Westwood, Isabella Blow and Coco Chanel.
So what are you waiting for? Ready for a hat? I sure am! I’ll be wearing one of Ms. Melissa’s luminous chapeaus this Fall. Anti-Brides getting married? Lose the veil, these hats will rock your W-day runway.
With a former life harbouring a keen interest in fashion, and with varied involvements in its industry, Melissa Bolin decided to follow her heart, devote her life to my passion, and put her hands to work in an area with a rich history and a striking presence: the art of millinery. In her work, my inspiration comes from years spent abroad in Japan, from travel and film, costuming and haute couture, pin-up and punk rock. Loving personal adornment, and the grandeur of femininity, she instills her loves and interests into all that she creates.
At Kitty Andrews, she combine traditional knowledge, techniques, and design precedents with a fresh, youthful approach drawing on modern materials and tastes, resulting in unique pieces that elevate the wearer’s character and style. They only use high quality fabrics, felts, and trimmings, with every piece meticulously crafted by hand.
