Welcome to Beauty Bar! I’m Brandy Gomez-Duplessis, celebrity makeup artist and my main goal in life is to make you look like the best version of yourself on your wedding day and beyond. I met the ladies of Antibride.com and Destination I Do Magazine last Fall for our Operation Aisle Style event at the W Hotel, New Orleans. My makeup, teamed with the gowns of Austin Scarlett of Project Runway not only helped the models rock the runway, but was also the basic of our cover look for the January 09 issue of Destination I Do Magazine. If there are any tips, tricks or vexing beauty issues, let me know and we’ll knock em out tout suite. Enjoy!
Many of my avant-garde brides have requested at their bridal consultation that I create “THE CAT EYE” look on their wedding day, a makeup look that is more ideal for a candle lit evening wedding. I suggest to my brides, if you decide to walk down the aisle with t his sultry look to keep the eye shadow neutral and shaped filled brows is a must. Use a matte non-shimmer bronzer for blush, because you want to have the cheeks contoured without a lot of color. The face should be very clean and highlight only the key areas on the face. Your main focus should be the cat eyeliner, the red matte lipstick and of course you, the Bride.
To create the perfect cat eye, dip the Bare Escentuals Buxom Lashliner Brush into Bare Escentuals Buxom Lashliner in Leatherette and swipe a thin line along the upper lash line and wing it out at the end. Rim the lower lash line with Bare Escentuals Buxom Insider Eyeliner in Onyx to balance out the dramatic lids. Finish by coating lashes with Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara in Blackest Black.
For matte yet velvety skin, buff in Bare Escentuals SPF 15 Matte Foundation. For a pout, line and fill lips with Bare Escentuals Buxom Big
& Healthy Lipstick in Barcelona. It also has a built-in sharpener. MeWow!
So my dear friend Jason Waxman and his lovely lady Ann, (our new Pacific Northwest life style libertines and bloggers) were in town for Outside Lands, and invited me out for some libations before the show. I threw on some of my new Urban Decay Eyeshadow, aptly named “Sin,” a little dress, and headed over to the W Hotel SF to imbibe and then called it a night. Ok, I admit to sometimes sleeping in my makeup, not a great move, but if it’s a matter of getting out of bed to wash my face or staying nice and cozy, I sometimes go for the latter in true slacker style.
So I wake up this morning, and the shadow literally looked like I had just applied it, but what happens next is truly going to blow your mind. So later today I went surfing, (albeit looking like I was headed to the W in killer eyeshadow), I was only in the water for about 1.5 hours, but I figured the stuff would wash off because it was powder. Generally, the salt of the ocean scrapes off anything you have on your face, and can be a little corrosive (which is why I highly recommend using Aquaphor before a session). So I get out, change out of my wet suit look in the car rear view mirror, and low and behold, the eyeshadow is not only completely on, and looking amazing but it also looked like I just applied it.
So then I had a revelation: many brides shed a few tears on W-day and tears, like the ocean are comprised of salt. So, Anti-brides, if you want your eye shadow to have nerves of steel, staying power, live through everything from a surf session to a hellacious crying jag, rely on Urban Decay to be there on the big day….
Note: My fav rockin colors are Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, Sin (of course) and the best-named eye shadow in the industry, Polyester Bride.
