Beyond the bridesmaid: United States of Fashion AIC-SF

Innovative designs emerge onto the runway, illuminating the constant evolution of design that caters to each distinct neighborhood of San Francisco.

[SAN FRANCISCO, CA, MAY 2010] – Join us for an impressive evening of urban style and chic fashions at United Streets of Fashion, The Art Institute of California – San Francisco’s Student Fashion Show and Competition. United Streets of Fashion will be held on Saturday, June 19th at 7pm at the San Francisco Design Center (101 Henry Adams Street). United Streets of Fashion offers Art Institute students the chance to showcase their collections on the runway to an audience of 1,500 guests including industry professionals, Bay Area designers, fellow students, family and friends.

San Francisco is a city comprised of many diverse neighborhoods, all of which offer their own unique sensibility and approach to style. United Streets of Fashion, the annual fashion show from the students at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco, has taken these unique fashion districts and transported them from the sidewalk to the catwalk.

Romantic drapery and fantastic foliage

Beneath the bright lights and beat thumping soundtrack, models will strut student designs down the runway which epitomize each neighborhood: slouchy knitwear emblematic of the Castro; chic bohemian styles straight from the Haight; high fashion from the Hayes Valley set;  sexy, sleek business attire made for the FiDi professional; and gritty urban styles from the streets of the Mission.

Just over 100 designs from 26 designers will be featured on the runway, narrowed down from over 180 submissions. The designers were chosen for their innovative approach and their ability to embody each district within San Francisco through their own unique point of view.

A panel of industry professionals and top designers will judge the fashions as they saunter down the runway, including Amy Sarabi from Project Runway Season 7 and Nathalie Doucet, President of Arts of Fashion Foundation. The show will be hosted by Elisabeth Laurence, creator, host, and co-executive producer of the broadcast TV show Lives of Style™©2010, which highlights the “Best-of-the-Best” in the world—in fashion, style, beauty and lifestyle.  Lives of Style airs in San Francisco, with launches in LA, NY, Miami and nationwide forthcoming.

WATCH AND COMMENT ON THE SHOW! 7 PM PST! CLICK HERE

W San Francisco in partnership with Antibride.com and Destination I Do Magazine is ready to add some WOW to weddings by hosting its first Operation Aisle Style event, a fashion show and multi-media event highlighting the philosophy of tying the knot outside of the box and exploring the road less travelled when saying the words “I Do.” Operation Aisle Style will showcase the hottest emerging fashion talent, signature cocktails by Kai Vodka and divine wines by Napa Valley’s notorious Somerston Winery. The mood, the music, and the magic will be webcast by Skout.com, and documented in a hip photo booth (and book) by Blurb.com. The evening will culminate in a blistering performance from SXSW bound band, The Hooks.

Operation Aisle Style hits the runway with two separate fashion shows: one showcasing the designs of Project Runway contestant, Austin Scarlett, lead designer, Kenneth Pool, and the second by The Art Institute of California’s future “rising star” fashion design students. Celebrity judges will jury twenty fashion design students as they show off their interpretation of “the alterna-wedding dress.”

One lucky winner will enjoy a 5 night stay in an Ocean Front Studio with breakfast at the Lodge Kura Hulanda & Beach Club located on the tropical island paradise of Curaçao.

After March 12th, the entire notion of “Wedding” will change…join us and make fashion history!

Festive Attire Encouraged!

We’ve set aside a certain number of tickets for our friends from Upcoming, Facebook, Destination I Do, the Anti-Bride Community and other social communities. Please RSVP in advance of the event to oas@skout.com. You can also get updates from the “Operation Aisle Style” Official Facebook page.
