GreenGlamGo eco-friendly fashion app!

Soon power shopping may have far less to do with what’s in your wallet than what’s on your phone, thanks to the increasing number of applications for mobile devices that combine fashion and shopping with imaging tools and social media.

“Shopping has always been a very social and interactive experience,” says Prosenjit Sen, CEO of the VIZL iPhone app.

And from the looks of it, shopping and fashion consumption are only going to continue in that direction. Helping things along are new and notable style-minded apps from Bay Area companies. They offer handheld tech tools tailored to everyone from casual fans of fashion to boutique-hunting travelers, street style enthusiasts, personal stylists and eco-friendly fashion fans and are available on devices ranging from the iPhone and iPad to Nokia smart phones.

Are you a fashion-conscious buyer who also cares dearly for our planet? And do you ever find that you need to compromise either your style or your green values as you shop? With GreenGlamGo, you literally have the best of both worlds. GreenGlamGo is a great mobile app for eco-fashionistas to discover and shop from a world-class style selection created by talented eco-designers. The app has been built on the Adobe Flash Lite 4 platform.

This short video from the publishers at GreenGlamGo shows the app in action on the Nokia N8, as well as the back story about the creation of this new app:

GreenGlamGo Video on Youtube!

Now, let’s explore the app in detail.

Right off the bat, you will notice the rich and classy look of this application. The different hues of green and black add to the visual appeal. The top panel of the screen has links to the home screen, help screen, GreenGlamGo Facebook page and the exit screen. The home screen is divided into three main sections – ‘Our Picks’, ‘Categories’ and ‘Featuring’.  ‘Our Picks’ section contains great recommendations from the creators of this application – Carolyn Gerin and Clarissa Nicosia, who have extensive experience in eco-friendly fashion.

The products are divided among five major groups – Fashion, Beauty, Bridal, Handmade and Gifts. Each category has detailed information about more than hundred products.

The creators of GreenGlamGo understand the need to educate the consumer about the eco-fashion continuum. Understandably, each product entry has very detailed information about the eco-designer, concept, green criteria, price, color, and size of the product. The green criteria help you answer the question – “What makes this product an eco-friendly product?”  I noted that some products have ethical production values (e.g: fair trade practices, vintage reuse and made to order), while others boast of environmentally friendly raw materials (an example being a 100% petro-chemical and paraben free lip gloss!)

The ‘Featuring’ section contains four sub-sections – ‘Haute-ly Handmade’, ‘Lip Locked’, ‘Vintage Vault’ and ‘Green Gift Go’. Each sub-section is an expertly curated selection of products. For example, the ‘Green Gift Go’ sub-section contains eco-books (such as Handmade Nation and Heroes of the Environment!) and journals.

Below you can see some selections from the ‘Haute-ly Made’ sub-section.

If you like a particular product, you can buy it right on your mobile by clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button. This action triggers your mobile web browser, which then directs you to the relevant designer’s web page where you can complete the transaction. I noticed that the transitions between the app and the mobile web browser are smooth and hassle free.

GreenGlamGo is currently exclusive to Nokia’s new Symbian devices like the Nokia N8 and is free to download from the Ovi store.
