Hup and Steph, aka Ryan and Steph Hupfer, high priest and priestess of SF’s social media cool kid clan, have a wildly popular blog and recently tied the knot. Apart from the fact that I adore them both together and individually (Steph was one of our Operation Aisle Style models), that is not the purpose of my missive today. I love the fact that they tweeked tradition in a small yet powerful way to add a little humor and insouciance to their combined wedding runway look.
A little background on Hup and Steph: they are from the Midwest, so I can’t imagine that the relatives would appreciate either one of them walking down the aisle in an Liberace suit and a Vegas show girl get up (although they could totally pull it off, as they both possess a wicked sense of humor), and are genetically blessed with good looks and charming personalities.
I believe they took a more sublime approach to this wedding wear conundrum by asking themselves: how do we inject a little personality, style, and sense of humor into our wedding ensemble to reflect who we are without looking like we’re tryin’ too hard?
With a tough shot of color, bright color, that’s how! What’s dear to my heart is that they picked a punky Anti-Bride pink, (and Sex Pistols pink for that matter), thanks guys! But in examining the photo, it goes deeper: if I were a color psychologist at the Color Marketing Group, I would opine that their choice of pink reads:
1. We have a wild streak, a sense of humor and ebullient personalities.
2. We were brought up with traditional values, but still like to bend the rules a little bit.
3. We are a hell of a lot of fun, and now that we’re married, let the cartoons begin!
4. We like to flout convention in polite ways that won’t upset our relatives.
5. We are creative.
You’ve got to love those fuschia checkered Vans on Hup (they look great with a tux), and Steph’s hot pink kitten heels and flowers add a little bit of punch to her gorgeous retro gown. A perfect little shot of pink punks everything up, and is universally flattering on guys and girls alike.
So, brides and grooms, if you want to rock a little insouciance in your W-day look, look no further than Hup and Steph, they are a little bit awesome and a little bit rock and roll…
